Thanksgiving Eve 2007
Sunday, November 11th, 2007Actually, it’s after midnight now so it is very early Thanksgiving day, but ah well, we’ll call it Thanksgiving Eve. Everyone is asleep. The house is quiet and smells of the baking and cooking earlier in the day still linger in the air. We’re having 19 people here for the big day and are looking forward to spending special time with our friends and families. (Of course, 8 of us live under this roof, but nonetheless…).
James and I will get up in the morning and stuff the turkey and put it in the oven to cook for many hours (it’s 25 lbs!). He helps me every year. It’s a special time for us. This will be a very special Thanksgiving as it is our first one in our new old farmhouse! Friends, family and good food deserve to be shared and celebrated under this old tin roof.
Not to be left out, we have a new member of the family who joined us yesterday afternoon. His name is Roscoe and he is a 7 week old super sweet Great Pyrenees pup. He is so calm and docile. He made himself a part of the family immediately and fit right into the crowd, like he is supposed to be here.
What I love about Thanksgiving:
The aromas of all the goodies as they cook, bake and are brought to the big table. Spending this special day with those who mean so much to us and who bring their light into our lives. Creating cherished memories for ourselves and our children. Taking a few moments to think about those things that I am most thankful for in my life….. Such as:
My husband who stands by my side, wipes my tears, holds my hand, tolerates excruiating PMS, cheers me on and loves me no matter what.
My children who make me laugh and cry and smile. Who challenge me everyday to try to figure them out. Who run up and down the stairs, play with their cars on the racetrack of the braided rugs, and love to ask me, very early in the morning, “What’s for dinner?”. (I guess that means they enjoy my cooking. At least that’s what I’m telling myself. And by the way they wolf it down, I think it’s true.)
My grandmother who is so gracious for everything. Who instills her wisdom into me and our children. For having the opportunity to have her living with us as her journey continues.
For the rest of our family for being supportive and caring and who they each are. For their personalities, their opinions, their shoulders and their love. Always there.
Our friends who have blessed our lives with their presence, their laughter, their company, their stories and who have invited us to be a part of their lives.
For the amazing and miraculous roof over our heads. For jobs we both love. For the food on our table and in our pantry and freezer. For the love we all share with each other. For the warmth of the furnace. For the green of the grass and the blue of the sky. For being together.
